Public Opportunity for Self-Portrait Submissions
Jackson, WY | January 16, 2026 – A new public art project is calling on Wyoming residents, art centers, indigenous peoples and local schools to help shape a powerful visual portrait of the state’s people. This collaborative initiative will bring together 250 self-portraits from all across Wyoming. The portraits will be displayed in 5, large-scale grid installations in downtown Jackson, Wyoming during the nation’s 250th anniversary year.
The project invites participants of all ages, backgrounds, and artistic experience levels to submit a self-portrait that reflects who they are. Through this collective effort, the installation will celebrate both individual identity and the shared sense of community that defines Wyoming.
By assembling hundreds of unique faces into unified artworks, the project highlights the diversity, creativity, and humanity of Wyoming’s residents, honoring each person while showing how individuals come together to form a larger whole.
Everyone is encouraged to participate, making this a truly statewide collaboration. Whether created with pencil, paint, or mixed media, each portrait will contribute to a visual narrative of Wyoming as seen through the eyes of its people.
“This project looks at Wyoming as one big community,” says JH Public Art Director, Carrie Geraci. “Each portrait stands on its own, but together they create a powerful image of community, belonging, and place.”
The 250 Portraits project highlights individual identity and collective belonging across Wyoming’s communities, supported by a self-guided walking map and opportunities for other towns to host installations.
