Press Release: Jackson Hole Public Art Issues a Call for Fresh Ideas for a Night of Innovation at Moonshot 5x5

JACKSON, WYOMING, October 23, 2023 / Jackson Hole Public Art announces a call for local creatives to present their out-of-this-world public art ideas. JH Public Art’s Moonshot 5x5 offers space for ambitious public art ideas that challenge what we think is possible in Jackson Hole. One presenter, selected by a jury that evening, will be awarded with the Moonshot prize of $3,000 to help launch their bright idea into the universe.

Moonshot 5x5 provides our creative community with a platform for launching inspiring ideas into the universe. Creatives come from Victor, Driggs, Star Valley, Pinedale, Dubois, the Wind River Reservation and Fort Hall to present their ideas in a quick paced format: 5 slides in 5 minutes. This year’s Moonshot presenters will be asked to propose innovative public art ideas inspired by biomimicry (designs based on natural processes – using nature as the model) to design a public art concept.

“A bit of magical thinking comes to life at Moonshot 5x5. Just as John F. Kennedy announced we would put a man on the moon with no plan and not enough technology in place, putting a dream out there sets intention and plants a seed. Things become possible.” said Carrie Geraci, Executive Director of JH Public Art.

A highlight of Moonshot 5x5 will be the keynote speaker Peter Lawrence, President and Co-Founder of Biomimicry in New England. From 1985 to 2014, Peter was Chairman & Founder of the Corporate Design Foundation, whose mission was to improve the quality of life and the effectiveness of organizations through design. In 2001 he received the Teknion Humanitarian Award for the work of the Corporate Design Foundation.

To submit an idea, email a cover letter, 5 images that represent the idea, a 500-word concept statement, and confirmation that you can attend the evening event compiled into one pdf document labeled with your name to Robin Cameron at robin@jhpublicart.org. Creatives should submit their ideas for Moonshot 5x5 by November 30 at 5 pm. The 5 presenters will each be given an honorarium of $500. Moonshot 5x5 happens on January 25, 2024.
