Teton County Library Questions and Answers
Q: What is the weight bearing load for suspended work?
A: Although the ceiling structure can support more weight the walls have very little extra capacity so any art attached to the ceiling would need to be extremely light in weight and would need to be evaluated by our engineer on a case by case basis.
Q: How is the space lit?
A: The lobby space will be completed as part of phase 1 at the beginning of July. This includes all lighting and finishes as shown on the construction drawings.
Q: Is the selection panel looking for 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional work?
A: The Library board has not indicated a preference for 2-D or 3-D work.
Q: The lobby entry window appears to be divided into mullions and to also have a large X running across, and in the window below as well.
A: The X’s are structural cross bracing and are independent from the window system.
Q: Under the " Call Detail " there is a line which reeds as follows : Integrate sustainable design principles/LEED Certified.
My question is how this will apply to the design process? My understanding of this issue is that an artist should not be using potentially harmful materials, toxic or the ones that can make harm to the people presented around it over the long time period.
A: Some ways to support green public art include: use green materials, repurposed materials or locally found resources, green design process, have an educational component that supports green practices or the art itself actually solves an issue, like a cistern for collecting and reusing water, then these efforts will contribute to green practices and may help advance LEED certification. Artists selected to develop conceptual proposals can submit a list of materials, it is not required at this point.
