Conservation and Maintenance Plan for Existing & Future Public Art Collection:
Funding needed to hire a professional conservator.
Hiring a professional conservator to identify, document and create a conservation plan for our existing public art collection sets a foundation of best practices and standards for the program to follow. Information collected in this project provides baseline content that will be used to develop an educational website designed to increase access to and understanding of the collection. Presenting information to the public on a regular basis will positively influence knowledge, attitudes, behavior and investment in public art.

Community Mural: Funding needed for youth scholarships.
Students will work with professional artists to design and paint a Community Mural inside the underpass that connects town to the school district. “Street art” techniques will be introduced and utilized. Neighborhood residents and community leaders will provide input on the conceptual design. The mural will celebrate cultural diversity. Students will work with Pathways to become official ambassadors of the pedestrian corridor. Students will be selected through a competitive process. The works of Judy Baca, JR, Bansky and other contemporary street artists will be reviewed.

Museum without Walls Website: Funding needed for technical development.
The website will be modeled after Philadelphia’s Museum Without Walls and will include, images, and “authentic voice” recordings about the artwork generated by the artists themselves or community members closely associated with the work. Quick Response technology will be used on location to allow people with smart phones to access information about public artworks. This project uses current technology to drive tourism, keep visitors here longer and builds stronger connections to a sense of place. The website will be linked to the Town, County, Chamber of Commerce and Center for the Arts websites increasing access to public art.

Open Air S.A.M. (science & art museum): Funding needed for instructors, supplies, studio time, artist stipends and marketing.
OPEN AIR S.A.M. (science and art museum) summer school students, creative professionals and local artists will be invited to install larger than life specimens from our ecosystem along the Jackson Hole Community Pathways System. Pieces will have information plaques that educate pathways users about the wonderful creatures one might encounter and how each creature is important to the overall health of the ecosystem. Artists will be encouraged to use repurposed materials. The open-air collection will be supported with on-site information about each installation. Self guided tour maps (bi-lingual) will be created and distributed increasing the number of people using the pathways and learning about biodiversity through public art. Artworks will be for sale! Funding 1% for the Tetons.
All of these projects need funding to become a reality. The Public Art Initiative relies on support from generous individuals and grants from foundations. Please contact Carrie Geraci at 307-413-1474 if you would like more detailed information about any one of our programs.
